Finding Your New Normal
“Things do not change, we change. We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake not by mechanical aids but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us even in our soundest sleep.”
Henry David Thoreau
As we see our lives being changed in these uncertain times, we can picture ourselves dreaming and planning in a more creative way. The pain and confusion of these last few months can propel us on a path of courage, faith and determination for ourselves, our families and society. There is a lot of good being done and a lot of awakening to our better selves. We are faced with many choices. Our journey has been altered.
What will our new “normal” look like? Do we really want to go “back to normal?” We have learned much about ourselves by facing our fears and anger. The sheltering rules brought on by this pandemic have forced a majority of us into a transition from “me” to a form of “we are all in this together.” Our new “normal” will hopefully cease to be “normal,” but to be AWAKE!
I can’t predict what lies ahead – I can only deal with this moment. How can I remain awake to better myself and my community? What are some barriers that can get in my way? How can I navigate these barriers?
