LET’S TALK ABOUT GRAINS (AGAIN)…
Going grain free can really help brain function. Who doesn’t want a better brain? Here’s how this works. (This is complicated so I’ll do my best to be understandable and brief.) We need both Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids to maintain health. Grains are a much bigger source of Omega 6. It is, therefore, possible to have too much Omega 6 and not enough Omega 3 if you eat a lot of grains. Omega 3 has anti-inflammatory properties that improve mood (healthy brain function.) Conversely, Omega 6 is pro-inflammatory and is associated with chronic depression. In short, Omega 3, not Omega 6, helps in the creation of Dopamine that increases our level of happiness.
Another great thing about reducing grains is weight loss. This is a topic that is near and dear to so many of us. Let me caution that there is no perfect body shape or weight for everyone. We are who we are because of hereditary factors like bone mass and body shape and environmental factors like emotional eating or maybe not eating healthy foods when we are stressed. I could add so much more but I think this gives you the basic idea. Let’s pick on grains and Omega 6 again! They can inhibit getting to and maintaining your ideal weight. They can even reverse weight loss. Grains are nutritionally dense so they can be counterproductive to being the you you’re wanting to be.
